This lot has everything we look for in a washed coffee from Kenya - juicy mouthfeel, fruit-driven and plenty of sweetness. In the cup, you’ll find notes of blackcurrant, balanced with a raisin and maple syrup-like sweetness
Producer
This AA lot comes from Kirinyaga County, Central Kenya. Produced by members of Kibirigwi Farmers Cooperative Society and processed at Nguguini Factory, established in 1958 and one of the long-standing wet mills in the region. Today, Nguguini serves approximately 1,200 smallholder members, who deliver selectively handpicked cherries during the main harvest season. Nguguini remains an important part of the local coffee community, bringing together generations of smallholder farmers while playing a central role in processing coffee from the surrounding area.
Process
After arriving at the wet mill, the cherries are sorted to remove underripe, overripe, and damaged fruit before pulping. The coffee is then fermented, washed through grading channels, and soaked in clean water before being dried on raised beds. During drying, the coffee is turned regularly and covered during the hottest part of the day and overnight to ensure even drying and preserve quality.
